    AbstractService unification and application integration have brought about vendors, network operators, service providers, car- riers, businesses and infrastructures over a platform while offering the business plans, presenting solution packages, proposing virtualization strategies and outsourcing the resources whereas promising an all Internet Protocol (IP) setup. Diverse business goals from distinctive providers alongside the technology merger and service unification in addition to dynamic border traffic management issues introduce more complexity over such platforms. A decision-making frame- work for handling the border traffic management issues at private public network with multi homing support is presented. Augmented Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) theory addresses the qualitative entities while constructing the structural hierarchy of goals, criteria, sub criteria and alternatives. Inter/Intra-domain knowledge over different planes (service, control and transport) is modeled by using ontology. Blending ontology with Bayesian captures uncertainty over the planes. A simple use-case is presented over the test-bed to validate the proposed solution. The system offers higher throughput with lower call/session/request drop at the cost of an add-on delay

    The aim of this study was to develop highly porous carbon nanocomposites for detoxification of ochratoxin A (OTA) in broilers. One-day-old chicks were divided into six groups (A to F). Group A was given pure feed. Group B was given 400 μg/kg of OTA contaminated feed, while the rest of the groups were fed on 400 μg/ kg of OTA contaminated feed plus a different level of the adsorbent. The clinical signs of the positive control (group B) such as depression, diarrhea, increased water intake, low body weight, a high degree of genotoxicity, and swollen and hemorrhagic kidneys and liver, were compared with the other groups. In group B chicks, the serum ALT (alanine transferase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), creatinine and urea levels were significantly higher, while albumin, globulin and total proteins levels were significantly lower than in negative control group A. The adsorbent treated groups showed almost normal clinical signs. Group C and D were affected to some extent, however, groups E and F showed undamaged DNA, normal behavior and blood biochemistry, and well- maintained histological structure, like that of the negative control group.Cilj je ovoga istraživanja bio razviti visokoporozne nanokompozite ugljika za detoksifikaciju ohratoksina A (OTA) u brojlera. Jednodnevni pilići podijeljeni su u šest skupina (A do F). Skupina A hranjena je čistom hranom. Skupini B davana je hrana kojoj je dodano 400 μg/kg OTA-e, dok su preostale skupine hranjene hranom kojoj je uz 400 μg/kg OTA-e dodane različite razine adsorbensa. Klinički znakovi kod pozitivne kontrole (skupina B), poput depresije, proljeva, povećanog unosa vode, niske tjelesne mase, visoke genotoksičnosti, natečenih i krvavih bubrega i jetre, uspoređeni su s ostalim skupinama. Skupine tretirane adsorbensima pokazale su gotovo normalne kliničke znakove. Skupine C i D do neke su mjere zahvaćene, dok su skupine E i F pokazale neoštećenu DNA, normalno ponašanje, normalne biokemijske krvne pokazatelje i dobro održanu histološku strukturu kao i brojleri u negativnoj kontrolnoj skupini

    Lectin status, protein contents and ammonium assimilating enzymatic activity of two indigenous cultivars of mulberry species, Morus alba and Morus nigra

    The studies were carried out with plantlets of two indigenous cultivars of mulberry species Morus alba and Morus nigra grown in soil less cultures, where extracts from roots, shoots, leaves, and reproductive organs were determined for protein content, agglutination of human erythrocytes and theactivity of the ammonium assimilatory enzyme glutamine synthetase. M. nigra and M. alba extracts contained potent phytoagglutinins in various tissues with highest contents in M. nigra. The leaves and roots of both species of mulberry were used to determine the glutamine synthetase activity and high level of activity was found in both tissues. The glutamine synthetase enzymatic activity was higher in roots (1.37 ìmol.gfw-1.min-1). The extract from all tissues of both species were used to determine the total protein contents and proteins found higher in the leaves (2.129 ìg/gfw in M. nigra and 0.973 ìg/gfw in M. alba)

    Identification of Input Nonlinear Control Autoregressive Systems Using Fractional Signal Processing Approach

    A novel algorithm is developed based on fractional signal processing approach for parameter estimation of input nonlinear control autoregressive (INCAR) models. The design scheme consists of parameterization of INCAR systems to obtain linear-in-parameter models and to use fractional least mean square algorithm (FLMS) for adaptation of unknown parameter vectors. The performance analyses of the proposed scheme are carried out with third-order Volterra least mean square (VLMS) and kernel least mean square (KLMS) algorithms based on convergence to the true values of INCAR systems. It is found that the proposed FLMS algorithm provides most accurate and convergent results than those of VLMS and KLMS under different scenarios and by taking the low-to-high signal-to-noise ratio

    Synthesis and antioxidant potential of some biscoumarin derivatives

    Purpose: To synthesize and screen some 3-substituted-bis-2H-chromen-2t-ones in a search for possible new antioxidants for use in food and pharmaceuticals industries.Methods: 2-Hydroxycoumarin was allowed to react with various substituted aromatic aldehydes in the presence of base as a catalyst to obtain to obtain 3-substituted-bis-2H-chromen-2t-ones. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), mass spectrometry (MS) and elemental analysis. The synthesized biscoumarin derivatives were screened by three parallel antioxidant assays, namely, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and linoleic acid lipid peroxidation. Further, the half minimal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of the compounds was also determined. Butylatedhydroxy toluene (BHT) was used as a standard reference in the antioxidant assay.Results: A library of ten biscoumarin analogues (3a-3j) were synthesized and evaluated for their antioxidant potential. The highest DPPH activity was shown by 3,3'-(3-hydroxy-4- methoxyphenylmethylene)-bis-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (3g) and 3,3'-(4-methoxyphenylmethylene)- bis-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (3h) with IC50 values of 53.33 ± 6.12 and 68.44 ± 2.67 μg/mL, respectively, compared to the standard compound BHT (butylatedhydroxy toluene) with IC50 of 71.00 ± 0.82 μg/mL. The strongest inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation was by 3,3'-(3-hydroxy-4- methoxyphenylmethylene)-bis-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (3g) and 3'-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylmethylene)- bis-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (3d) with inhibition values of 70.34 and 69.87 %, respectively. Compound 3g demonstrated the highest reducing power with an absorbance of 0.49 at 10 mg/mL concentration (p < 0.001). It was observed that the change in substitution greatly affected the antioxidant potential of the compounds, with the presence of the methoxy group at position-4 of aryl moiety along with 2-hydroxycoumarin being critical for antioxidant activity.Conclusion: The synthesized biscoumarin derivatives, 3g and 3h, are superior antioxidants to standard (BHT) and are suitable lead molecules for further development.Keywords: Antioxidant, Biscoumarins, DPPH, Ferric reducing assay, linoleic acid lipid peroxidation assa

    Antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiproliferative activities of peel and pulp extracts of red and white varieties of Ipomoea batatas (L) Lam

    Purpose: To investigate the antioxidant, antibacterial and anticancer potentials of methanol and ethanol extracts of the peel and pulp of red and white species of Ipomoea batatas (L.) fruit.Methods: Total phenolic contents and flavonoids were determined using chemical assays. Antioxidant studies were carried out using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay, inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation assay and reducing power assay. Antibacterial and antiproliferative activities of extracts were determined using disc diffusion and MDBK cancer cell line inhibition methods, respectively.Results: The extract of peels of red specie (PERS) showed total phenolic contents (TPC) 8.9 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g dry extract and flavonoids 6.5 mg catechin equivalent (CE)/g dry extract. The extract of PERS also showed promising DPPH free radical scavenging activity, inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation and reducing power activity. However, mild antibacterial and anti-proliferative activities were noted except that the extract showed significant inhibition of Bacillus subtilis growth.Conclusion: The results indicate that the peel and the pulp of red sweet potato (SP) specie are rich in antioxidants and can potentually be processed as antioxidant food supplements.Keywords: Ipomoea batatas (L.)     Modeling induction and routing to monitor hospitalized patients in multi-hop mobility-aware body area sensor networks

    In wireless body area sensor networks (WBASNs), energy efficiency is an area of extreme significance. At first, we present a mathematical model for a non-invasive inductive link which is used to recharge the battery of an implanted biomedical device (pacemaker). Afterwards, we propose a distance-aware relaying energy-efficient (DARE) and mutual information-based DARE (MI-DARE) routing protocols for multihop mobility-aware body area sensor networks (MM-BASNs). Both the routing protocols and the non-invasive inductive link model are tested with the consideration of eight patients in a hospital unit under different topologies, where the vital signs of each patient are monitored through seven on-body sensors and an implanted pacemaker. To reduce energy consumption of the network, the sensors communicate with a sink via an on-body relay which is fixed on the chest of each patient. The behavior (static/mobile) and position of the sink are changed in each topology, and the impact of mobility due to postural changes of the patient(s) arms, legs, and head is also investigated. The MI-DARE protocol further prolongs the network lifetime by minimizing the number of transmissions. Simulation results show that the proposed techniques outperform contemporary schemes in terms of the selected performance metrics. © 2016, Javaid et al

    Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles by Using Ziziphus nummularia

    Silver nanoparticles of Ziziphus nummularia leaves extract were synthesized and were characterized by UV-Visible spectrophotometry, particle size analyzer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), SEM, TGA, and EDX. The XRD pattern reveals the FCC structure of Ag nanoparticles. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of Ag-O bonding. UV-Visible spectroscopy results confirmed the existence of Ag because of the particular peak in the region of 400–430. The SEM analysis confirmed spherical and uniform Ag nanoparticles with diameter ranging from 30 nm to 85 nm. The EDX analysis revealed strong signals in the silver region and confirmed the formation of silver nanoparticles. The antioxidant potential and antifungal and antimicrobial potential of the leaf extract and silver nanoparticles were also determined. The antioxidant property was determined using DPPH assay. The antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties were better for the silver nanoparticles than the aqueous leaf extract. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal (MBC), and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) of plant extract and prepared silver nanoparticles were also tested. The hair growth properties of plant extracts and their respective nanoparticles were observed and good results were noted for nanoparticles as compared to the leaf extract

    Oxadiazole ring system occupies a significant position among heterocyclic templates for medicinal compounds due to its wide spectrum of biological activities. This article entails an in-depth review of the ability of oxadiazole derivatives to induce apoptosis of cancer cells. FDA has approved a number of drugs for the treatment of different types of cancer. There is, however, a continuing need for the development of new anticancer agents due to increasing cases of drug resistance. Moreover, medicinal chemists are continuously struggling to invent selective cytotoxic agents with minimum side effects.
